Battery Music

Battery comprises Jon Seymour on vocals, synths, and software and Eric Ganci on percussion.

Jon, the group's songwriter, is a physician, programmer, and entrepreneur. He's developed a unique sound influenced by 80s New Wave icons like The Cars, R.E.M., and The Police, along with diverse alt-rock acts like Genesis, Rush, Oasis, and Cake, but crafted entirely in the electronic realm with elements suggesting post-rock and big beat groups like Stereolab, The Chemical Brothers, and The Crystal Method. His first band, On Call, opened for Kansas and played with Sister Hazel, and his second, The Smokin' Havanas, had a long run in Tampa. Jon's love of synths, starting with a classic DX7-II in college and continuing unabated to today's software powerhouses like Logic Pro and Melodyne Studio, has provided him the drive and ability to add something new to the fascinating tradition of Chicago music.

Eric received his BA in music education from NIU, where he was privileged to study with artists such as Jeff Stitley, Orlando Cotto, Rich Holly, and Robert Chappell, helping him develop a well-rounded knowledge base and playing style. Eric's eclectic mix of current projects also includes Sage (www.sage4.com), The Guzaks (www.theguzaks.com), and Low Brau, along with independently booked jazz gigs. Says Eric: "In one of my greatest lessons, the instructor told me to play the drums like a saxophone. From that point on, I've approached playing from a completely different perspective. Transcribing jazz heads and solos (mostly Miles) and applying them on set helped enforce this idea. Studying with Joey Sellers and watching Matt Wilson play also turned me on to making different sounds and inflections through the drums, many of them non-traditional. Years of disciplined practice, working sound, in addition to coordination, groove, transcription, and chops, have given me this approach to not only playing drums, but also being a musician."
